New head teachers appointed

27 March 2013

New head teachers have been selected for 3 of Jersey’s States primary schools and will take up the posts this year. The successful candidates are as follows:

St Saviour’s Primary School

Kirstie Williams (40), who is currently deputy head at First Tower School, will take over as head from Kate Sugden at St Saviour's after Easter. Mrs Williams has been at First Tower since 2003 and became deputy head in September 2007. Before that she was a teacher at St Clement’s School where she started her career in 1995.

"I am delighted to be appointed head teacher at St Saviour’s, where I hope to continue the good work of Mrs Sugden and her team. I have been fortunate to have the support of the pupils, parents and staff at First Tower and wish them every success for the future," Mrs Williams said.

Mont Nicolle School

John Baudains (36) has been acting head at the St Brelade school since November and is now confirmed as permanent head teacher. He was previously assistant head at Grouville School, where he had worked since 2003. He began his career at the school he now leads.

"Mont Nicolle is where I started teaching and I am delighted to be taking the school forward on the next part of its learning journey. I have really enjoyed the past two terms and it is a real pleasure to be given the opportunity to lead the team. I am looking forward to working with the whole school community," Mr Baudains said.

Les Landes School

Vicky Charlesworth (35) will move to the St Ouen primary school from D’Auvergne, where she is currently deputy head and has served as acting head for a period. She was previously deputy head at St Luke’s School and a teacher at Mont Nicolle.

"Les Landes is a school with a strong community, and it is committed to securing the best outcomes for its pupils. I am delighted to have been appointed as head teacher, and I am looking forward to leading the school from September," said Mrs Charlesworth.

Director of Education Mario Lundy said "I am delighted we have been able to appoint such strong local candidates to lead three of our primary schools. We have a successful programme to train deputy heads in the Island and this is now delivering strong applicants for the top posts. This will ultimately benefit the children in our schools. Congratulations to all concerned."
