Treasury Minister in Qatar

05 December 2013

Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, will represent Jersey at the Euromoney Qatar Conference in Doha on 10 and 11 December 2013. The Senator’s invitation to appear as a keynote interviewee at the international event follows his meeting with the Qatari Finance Minster, His Excellency Mr Al Emadi, at the IMF and World Bank conferences in Washington in October this year.

The event is part of a series of country-specific conferences organised by Euromoney, one of the largest business and financial magazine publishers in Europe. It will be attended by senior finance and business professionals with an interest in the Qatari market. The Government of Jersey has developed strong ties with Qatar, following previous official visits to the country and the signing of a double taxation agreement between the two governments in 2012.

Senator Ozouf commented “Qatar is a major Gulf state with which Jersey already has commercial and regulatory ties, and this conference will provide an opportunity to further strengthen Jersey’s reputation in the country and in the region as a whole.

“When I met His Excellency Mr Al Emadi in Washington, we had wide-ranging discussions about the mutually beneficial relationship between our two governments and the global issues that affect us both, such as the role of the G20 and the significance of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act.

“I shall be addressing similar themes at the conference, where I will be taking questions on the role of independent finance centres and the lessons that the Jersey and Qatari governments can learn from one another.”
