Chief Minister to visit Ille Et Vilaine

23 July 2013

The Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, will travel to Rennes tomorrow (24 July) to meet the President of the General Council of Ille et Vilaine, Mr Jean-Louis Tourenne. The Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, and the Vice-President of the General Council, Mrs Clotilde Tascon Mennetrier, will also attend the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting will be to affirm the Island’s commitment to build on its historical and cultural links with the Department of Ille et Vilaine. The possibility for cooperation in cultural and artistic projects will be discussed, along with other areas of mutual interest, such as economic development, tourism, agriculture and the environment.
As part of their visit, Senators Gorst and Bailhache will also be shown around the Ille et Vilaine Archives, and the FRAC contemporary art museum.
Senator Gorst commented “There is much common ground between Jersey and Ille et Vilaine, historically and culturally, and we will be discussing opportunities for developing those links. Strengthening the positive relations that we enjoy with our French neighbours is a priority for Jersey’s Government and will bring long-term benefit to Islanders.”
