The Acting Chief Minister, Senator Ian le Marquand, has paid tribute to former Senator Dick Shenton, who died earlier this week at the age of 86.
"I am saddened to hear of the death of former Senator Dick Shenton.
"Dick Shenton was one of Jersey’s longest serving States Members and he made an enormous contribution to Island life.
"He was undoubtedly the most popular politician of his era, topping the poll as a Senator on four occasions. He served as the President of many different States committees.
"He will be remembered as a caring man with a larger than life personality, who had a deep Catholic faith and a strong social conscience. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
