From today (1 October) Islanders will be able to pay their Social Security contributions online. Previously payments could only be made in person, by BACS or by post, but now people wishing to pay class 1 and 2 contributions can do so via the States website at www.gov.je.
As part of the eGov programme departments are moving more services online and working hard to make the States easier to do business with. This is the first time Social Security has offered an online payment option that will allow businesses to make payments online at any time.
Improved customer service
The new payment system has been designed to be quick and easy to use and will help businesses and people to manage their finances more efficiently. The process will also save time and money for both those making online payments and the department.
The Minister for Social Security, Deputy Susie Pinel said she was pleased with the progress being made, “This is a significant step towards further modernising the service we provide. The department continues to work closely with the eGov team to streamline services and improve customer service and this is just one of many areas where the benefits of this collaboration are being realised.”
Payment methods
In addition to the online option, payments can still be made to Social Security in the following ways:
- BACS
- direct debit
- debit card
- cheque
- cash
