Skills show window design competition

09 January 2015

Students attending the Jersey Skills Show next week will have the opportunity to design their own King Street window display at Voisins Department Store.

The first Jersey Skills Show, organised by Careers Jersey and sponsored by Andium Homes, will take place on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 January 2015 at Fort Regent.

Event organiser, Sophie Winter, said "The Jersey Skills Show is a great opportunity for attendees to explore a wide range of industries from construction to health and care, hospitality to retail and beauty, there’s something there for everyone. Attendees can visit a variety of interactive areas that will showcase a variety of skills including a crime scene, carpentry and engineering, accident and emergency, cocktail making, media and much more."

Voisins are offering all students who attend the Show the chance to design an Easter-themed display. The winner of the competition will then install their winning design in the store window on 30 March 2015. The winning scheme will remain on display for two weeks.

The store's head of marketing Emily Moore said "This is an exciting opportunity for all budding designers to create a window display which the winner will then be able to bring to life in one of our King Street windows. This will be a valuable learning experience introducing students to the concept of thinking about the ways in which artistic designs can also showcase products in an appealing manner to drive sales."

The Jersey Skills Show takes a new approach to the traditional careers fair, allowing people to try their hand at a variety of skills that relate to different careers.

Attendees visiting Voisins’ stand at the Jersey Skills Show will also learn about different career opportunities within retail. A-level students and graduates can apply for Voisins Retail Academy, a four-year retail management programme which will be recruiting its second intake of students in September.

The Jersey Skills Show is free to attend and is open Saturday 17 January 11 am – 4 pm (the event is open on Friday to students only).
