Homes for Islanders with complex needs

22 April 2015

Islanders with complex needs have been able to move into purpose-built accommodation in a St Saviour development where they will be able to enjoy homes for life.

The eight properties within the Andium Court development on St Saviour’s Hill are now fully-occupied by 13 people with learning and physical disabilities moving.

The flats have been fitted out with disabled access and assistive technology which will enable residents to have as much independence as possible, for as long as possible.

Developer Andium Homes worked with a number of States departments to provide a means of making these homes available for specified individual occupants. Jersey Property Holdings carried out the work to equip the flats to specifications laid out by the Health and Social Services Department; funding for rental fees, living costs and care costs will be provided by the Social Security Department.

Blueprint for residential needs

"This is an excellent blueprint for meeting the residential needs of some of the Island’s most vulnerable people," said the Minister for Health and Social Services, Senator Andrew Green. "I hope it will be possible to replicate this model in other appropriate settings."

Social Security Minister Deputy Susie Pinel said "Having brought in the Long Term Care scheme to make it easier for people with care needs to be looked after in their own homes, it’s very pleasing that we have an illustration of what can be achieved in practice through different agencies working together."

Commercial Director of Andium Homes, Carl Mavity, said "These properties are an important part of the Andium Court development, which has already provided 48 affordable lifelong homes, with an additional 30 one-bedroom apartments currently under construction."
