Changes to Esplanade car park

14 November 2016

The Esplanade car park will close at 8pm this evening (Monday 14 November) and re-open on Wednesday 16 November to allow for the next phase of construction for the International Finance Centre.

It will re-open as a shopper only car park (3 hour limit) with an extra 116 spaces. Commuter parking will be moved to Les Jardins.

The Jersey Development Company (JDC) has increased the size of Les Jardins car park to take account of the lost spaces on the Esplanade and Les Jardins will become a commuter only car park for 525 vehicles. Shopper parking only will be established on the remaining areas of the Esplanade car park with the underpass access to Les Jardins remaining open.

The Esplanade car park will close completely at 8pm on Monday 14 November, reopening again on Wednesday 16 November to enable line painting to be done in the remaining space available for parking.

There will be 190 Esplanade car park shopper spaces.  This is 116 more short-stay parking spaces than previously on the site and will serve the increase in shoppers in the run-up to Christmas, as well as providing alternative parking options when Minden Place car park is refurbished next year.

Lee Henry, Managing Director of JDC said “Work to extend the Les Jardins car park to ensure commuters didn’t lose any parking started some time ago. We are fortunate that we had enough space left in the Esplanade car park to provide additional, much-needed shopper parking. I am very pleased that we have been able to work with the Department for Infrastructure to increase shopper car parking numbers in the area.”

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for DfI, added “I am sure the increase in shopper parking in the run up to Christmas will be very welcome in this busy town car park.”
