The Department for Infrastructure will be carrying out road surface improvement work on Mont Cochon starting next week, for a three week period.
Work will start on La Route du Mont Cochon on Monday 6 June from just north of the junction with Rue de Trachy to just south of the junction with Les Charrieres Nicolle. During this first week until Friday 10 June, the whole road has to be closed to traffic between 9.15am and 6pm (this may be extended to 8pm if necessary). There will be access to premises by arrangement with the contractor, dependent on the current working area. Diversions will be signed via St John’s main road.
Traffic lights will be in operation around specific working areas during weeks two and three from 9.15am until 6pm, Monday to Friday. The road will be open at all other times.
Mont Cochon is not being resurfaced in the traditional way. The technique first used at Mont Mado last year is being used. It is part of a three location trial – Green Road being the third location. It is a well-used process in both the UK and France, and costs are only about a third of the price of traditional resurfacing, and is also much quieter to install.
The new surface will then have a ten to fifteen year life-span. Initially, it will look blacker than the traditional tarmac and will take time to fade. It may also sound different when driven on it but it has a much higher skid resistance, therefore improving safety.
