The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has submitted a Planning Application for the construction of the new sewage treatment works (STW) at Bellozanne.
The new plant is needed because the existing one is nearly 60 years old and has reached the end of its useful life. Maintenance and repair has become increasingly more difficult and costly.
Preliminary works to prepare and make space for the proposed site are currently underway and were subject to prior approved planning applications.
The Household Recycling Centre has already been relocated to La Collette and the hillside at Bellozanne is being excavated and stabilised providing more room for the new plant.
This work is due to be completed by the end of 2017.
A drop-in session was held to acquaint the public with the project prior to submitting the planning application.
Subject to Planning approval, construction of the new STW is programmed to commence in early 2018 and be fully commissioned in mid-2022.
