Registered unemployment for December 2016

The Social Security Department compiles information on people registered as ASW in Jersey. The States of Jersey Statistics Unit independently analyses this anonymised data and publishes monthly reports of the figures.

On 31 December 2016:

  • on a seasonally adjusted  basis, the total number of people registered as actively seeking work (ASW) was :
    • 10 lower than the previous month
    • 110 lower than the average for the preceding three months
    • 110 lower than a year earlier
  • the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,280; this total is 30 lower than in the previous month, 110 lower than a year earlier and the lowest recorded in the last 6 years (since December 2010)
  • the total number of long-term ASW (registered for more than twelve months) was 270; this total is 10 higher than the previous month and 70 higher than a year earlier
  • there were 370 individuals registered as ASW but engaged in some form of paid employment and classified as underemployed; this includes 110 individuals also classified as long-term ASW
