Working with the voluntary sector

04 September 2018

Later this month, members of the voluntary and community sector are invited to a workshop to consider how they can work with the States of Jersey to improve outcomes for islanders. The half-day workshop on 26 September is open to organisations and individuals working within the sector and to the general public.

The workshop aims to identify the main factors affecting the relationship between the voluntary and community sector and the States of Jersey, to enable the development of a strong, constructive relationship for the benefit of the whole community.

The workshop will run from 1-4pm at St Pauls Centre.  Discussions will focus on the recent States’ consultation which asked voluntary and community organisations what values, behaviours and principles they felt should underpin a new and improved relationship with the States of Jersey. Workshop participants will discuss communication with the States, funding and capacity building within the voluntary and community sector and ways to build strong relationships between the sector and the States of Jersey.

The States of Jersey has developed the workshop in consultation with a number of organisations, including the Association of Jersey Charities, the Jersey Employment Trust, the Rotary Club of Jersey, Jersey Hospice Care, Brighter Futures, Family Nursing and Home Care, Jersey Disability Partnership, Durrell and the Jersey Community Partnership.

The CEO of the Jersey Community Partnership, Rachel French, commented: “We have a large and vibrant charitable sector that many islanders depend on, and which makes a valuable contribution to the economy, health and development of our community.

“A key part of enabling the sector to flourish and bring about even greater positive change is having an effective relationship with the States of Jersey, one which encourages society to achieve its potential. I would encourage anyone with an interest in the charitable sector to come along to the workshop on 26 September.”

The Interim Director of Local Services, Colette Kelly, commented: “There is untapped potential to engage the sector in a different way and to use the huge social value embedded in Jersey’s community. I would encourage everyone to join in the workshop to help shape the growing relationship between the States and the voluntary and community sector.”

Admission to the workshop is free.  To reserve a place please book here
