Public inquiry into Future Hospital is launched

14 September 2018

A public inquiry into the Future Hospital planning application to build on the Gloucester Street and Westaway Court site is set to begin next week.

It begins on Monday 17 September at St Paul’s Centre and will assess whether the application complies with planning policy. It is open to the public and will consider how the proposal fits in with the Island Plan, and in particular

  • the scale of the hospital
  • heritage factors, including listed buildings and archaeology
  • how the proposed building will impact on its surroundings
  • transport and access
  • the impacts of demolition and construction.

Other sites will also be considered as part of the inquiry, which is scheduled to last until Friday 21 September.

The inquiry will be led by Phil Staddon, the same independent inspector who considered the first application for a new hospital and which was reviewed in a public inquiry in November 2017.

The inquiry will also take into account the views of islanders, businesses, and organisations which were submitted earlier this year at the invitation of the independent inspector.

There is also an open evening plenary session on Tuesday 18 September from 6.30-7.30pm at St Paul’s Centre.

Anyone interested in attending the inquiry can view the full draft programme here.
