Ice rink back from the brink

13 November 2019

Fort Regent are to host an ice-skating rink from Friday, 6 December until Sunday, 5 January and, for the first time, tickets will be available to buy online.

Tickets are on sale from Friday, 15 November following an agreement for UK ice rink operator Very Nice Ice to install the rink in Queen’s Hall.

Fort Regent Centre Manager, Jo Mousdale said: “Following the news that the previous ice rink operator could not commit this year, we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to offer this popular festive activity. We are so pleased to now welcome the Very Nice Ice rink to our calendar of events to see us celebrate the festive season with the fun the Queen’s Hall has become used to seeing every year. I would like to thank our tenants and regular users for working with us to accommodate the event, at such short notice, as we have tried to minimise disruption.”

Managing Director of Very Nice Ice, Paul Minney, said: ”We would like to thank the Government of Jersey and Fort Regent for this fantastic opportunity to continue the excellent work provided by our predecessors. We hope to deliver a fabulous winter event for all our customers and we look forward to meeting them.”

Very Nice Ice have operated ice rinks and staged similar events across a number of major UK towns and cities, including Edinburgh and Manchester. Very Nice Ice are renting Queen’s Hall and operating the facility without Government funding.

Senator Steve Pallett, Assistant Minister, with responsibly for Sport and Mental Health, said: “I’m pleased the public will have the opportunity to ice skate again this year and would like to thank the Fort Regent tenants for their support. It’s a popular activity that many families enjoy over the festive period and it would have been disappointing if local families did not have the opportunity to enjoy what has become a highlight of Christmas at Fort Regent. This is a positive outcome for the community and I would like to thank the management and all staff at the Fort for going the extra mile to make this happen.”

Tickets will be sold via Eventbrite and can be purchased online from Friday, 15 November. The ice-rink will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years’ Day.
