Support for World Oceans Day

07 June 2019

Jersey is getting involved with World Oceans Day – the annual global celebration of the protection and conservation of our shared ocean – which this year, is being held on Saturday, 8 June 2019.

This year there are a number of activities on offer modelled around the theme ‘Blue Mind.’

Jane Burns, eco active programme manager, said: “We hope the Blue Mind concept, which believes being near, in, on or under water can make you happier, healthier and more connected, will resonate with islanders who enjoy such close proximity to the sea.

“This World Oceans Day we want to encourage people to enjoy the programme of activities on offer while being mindful for the need to help protect our ocean environment.

“The theme for Blue Mind is woven into the programme of events, with activities such as mindfulness and yoga helping people focus on the positive effects of the sea, on mental health and well-being.”

Eco active partners are providing a full and varied programme throughout the day with plenty of free or discounted ocean related activities for everyone to get involved in.

Events include:

• taster sessions with Beach Ability
• nurdle hunt with Plastic Free Jersey
• student art exhibition at the Frances Le Sueur Centre
• Blue Mind reading at Jersey Library
