Driving tests resume

02 July 2020

A coronavirus update
Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) has re-opened its doors for theory and practical driving tests. While DVS has continued to run vehicle inspections and maintained the Vehicle Register throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, the building has been closed to the public since the end of March.

To support the re-opening, DVS have introduced a range of new measures to provide a service while enabling physical distancing.

For practical tests:
  • Both the person taking the test and the examiner will need to wear a face covering or face mask
  • The windows of the vehicle will need to remain open to provide ventilation
  • Touch points in the vehicle will need to be cleaned before each test
  • Six tests slots will be available per day, rather than the usual nine
For theory tests:
  • Anyone taking a test will need to wear a face covering or face mask
  • Anyone taking a test will need to stay 1 meter apart from other people in the Theory room
  • The theory test consoles will be cleaned between each test
  • Only six candidates will be able to take a theory test at any one time

People who have already booked a slot will be contacted directly by DVS staff. Anyone taking a test will need to provide their own facemask or face covering: DVS will not provide any face coverings.

Anyone not wearing a face covering or face mask will not be allowed to sit the test.

To support physical distancing, Islanders will not be able to wait inside the DVS building. A new undercover queueing system has been introduced to separate queues for Driving and Theory tests, and queues for counter service. An outdoors waiting area will also available for people waiting for vehicle inspections.
