The registered unemployment report for the second quarter of 2020 has been published today by Statistics Jersey.
The numbers presented in this report relate only to voluntarily registered persons and persons whose Income Support applications have been processed by Customer and Local Services (CLS) and who have been classed as Actively Seeking Work (ASW) up to 30 June 2020. These numbers do not show the full extent of unemployment in the Island but are indicative of the changes in unemployment.
Summary
On 30 June 2020
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as ASW was 2,000; this total is 990 higher than at the end of the previous quarter and 1,130 higher than a year earlier (30 June 2019)
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,950; this total is 940 higher than at the end of the previous quarter and 1,130 higher compared to a year earlier
- the total number of long-term ASW (registered for more than twelve months) was 290; this total is 40 higher compared with the previous quarter and 90 higher than a year earlier
- there were 440 individuals registered as ASW but engaged in some form of paid employment and classified as underemployed; this includes 100 individuals also classified as long-term ASW
