The registered unemployment report for the third quarter of 2020 has been published today by Statistics Jersey.
The numbers presented in this report relate only to voluntarily registered persons and persons whose Income Support applications have been processed by Customer and Local Services (CLS) and who have been classed as Actively Seeking Work (ASW) up to 30 September 2020. These numbers do not show the full extent of unemployment in the Island but are indicative of the changes in unemployment.
Summary
On 30 September 2020
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as ASW was 1,540; this total is 460 lower than at the end of the previous quarter and 670 higher compared with a year earlier
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,580; this total is 370 lower than at the end of the previous quarter and 660 higher compared with a year earlier
- the total number of long-term ASW (registered for more than twelve months) was 360; this total is 70 higher compared with the previous quarter and 120 higher compared with a year earlier
- there were 470 individuals registered as ASW but engaged in some form of paid employment and classified as underemployed; this includes 110 individuals also classified as long-term ASW
