Clarification over George de Carteret statue

10 September 2020

The Minister for Education, Senator Tracey Vallois,

Further to an oral question from Deputy Montfort Tadier in the States Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister for Education, Senator Tracey Vallois, is pleased to further clarify that the Jersey Youth Service did not financially sponsor the statue of George de Carteret.

A pamphlet issued at the time of the statue’s unveiling did list Jersey Youth Service as a sponsor, but this was only meant to signal the in-principle support they had shown, at the time, for a George de Carteret Award for young people.

This award, which was launched in September 2015, was proposed by the then Connétable of St Peter John Refault at an Annual General Meeting of the St Peter's Youth Club.
