Coronavirus leaflets sent to all households

11 March 2020

postie

A leaflet providing health, travel and hygiene advice on Coronavirus is being delivered to every Jersey household from tomorrow (Thursday 12 March). The leaflet will be delivered by Jersey Post to all 46,000 households over the coming week.

It explains that infection with Covid-19 is mild in 80% of cases, and current indications are that people who aren’t showing symptoms are unlikely to be contagious. It also explains the importance of hand hygiene, and points Islanders to advice specifically aimed at businesses and at anyone planning to travel off-island.

Government continues to follow expert health advice, which is updated daily.  The current advice is that there is no need to cancel all large public events, but individual events will be considered on a case by case basis. As the virus is spreading in Europe and the UK, that advice will change as the situation changes.

Government’s emergency preparations include ensuring that all staff whose jobs allow it can work from home if that becomes necessary.

There is currently one confirmed case of Coronavirus in Jersey and the Island’s health authorities are monitoring the situation closely.  91 people have been tested and 90 have come back negative.

The Government’s campaign to inform Islanders about Coronavirus continues. A dedicated area on the Government’s website is being regularly updated to reflect the latest health and travel advice.

The Emergencies Council is due to meet tomorrow on  Thursday 12 March to review plans on how the Island would manage if the virus arrives in Jersey.
