Island Plan Sustainability Appraisal published

21 May 2021

The Minister for Environment has published an independent Sustainability Appraisal (SA) of the draft bridging Island Plan. The report considers how the draft Island Plan will address key environmental, social and economic sustainability issues facing the Island.

Islanders are being asked for their views on the findings of the report alongside the ongoing public consultation on the draft bridging Island Plan, which has eight weeks left to run.

The SA, compiled by consultants AECOM, is made up of three reports:

Sustainability Appraisal for the bridging Island Plan

Sustainability Appraisal for the Jersey bridging Island Plan

The bridging Island Plan Sustainability Appraisal - Technical Annex

Deputy John Young said: "I am pleased with the findings of this independent assessment of the bridging Island Plan. Our sustainability experts have found no major issues of concern, which is testament to the significant work undertaken to ensure the plan will protect our special and unique environment, whilst meeting the needs of the community and a sustainable economy.

"We are a now four weeks into our 12-week public consultation on the draft bridging Island Plan. I'm pleased that our online seminars have been well attended, and that islanders have been keen to engage in the Parish roadshows we are running. I want to use this opportunity to encourage Islanders to get involved in the Island Plan consultation, and to give their feedback on this additional Sustainability Appraisal."

Comments about the Plan, or specifically about the Sustainability Appraisal,  can be submitted on www.gov.je/islandplan, by emailing the Island Plan team at islandplan@gov.je or by post: Island Plan Review, FREEPOST 505, 19-21 Broad Street, St Helier. The consultation closes on 12 July.
