Learning Disability Nursing Degree to launch

12 May 2021

A new Learning Disability Nursing Degree course has opened for applications for the first time in Jersey, starting in September.

The course is three years long and those who complete it will receive a Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) degree awarded by the University of Chester and will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD).

The course is split evenly between theory-based work which will be taught in Chester and clinical practice work which will be undertaken in Jersey.

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf said: "Children, Young People, Education, and Skills and Health and Community Services have done a remarkable job in organising this new degree programme.

"Our health service provides vital support to people with learning disabilities and it is incredibly important to be able to increase the number of nurses in this area with home-grown talent."

Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden said: "I'm delighted that this new course has been launched in partnership with the University of Chester. This will give those Islanders who are interested in nursing, the chance to expand their knowledge and find their pathways on-Island."

"This is a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in nursing and I fully encourage Islanders to apply."

More information on the degree and how to apply can be found here.
