Improved process for Islanders on assisted purchase waiting list

09 September 2021

Islanders wishing to purchase a home with financial assistance from the Government will be managed by Andium Homes, moving away from the current team in the Affordable Housing Gateway, by 30 September 2021.

Following a recommendation in the Review of Access to Social Housing, a decision was made by the Minister for Housing and Communities to move the process over to Andium Homes who are experienced in dealing with the purchase of affordable homes.

All Islanders who are currently registered for assisted purchase have been contacted regarding the change to Andium Homes. This is to confirm consent for their application details to be passed to the new provider and maintain its existing priority. Any Islanders currently registered who fail to respond by the end of September will be deemed as no longer requiring assisted purchase support and therefore have their application removed from the assisted purchase waiting list.

Minister for Housing and Communities, Deputy Russell Labey, said: "I am pleased that we are moving forward with this transfer, following recommendations to introduce a separate waiting list for households in need of financial assistance from the Government to purchase a home.  We've written to all affected customers to inform them of this change and the requirement to provide consent.

"Andium already successfully operates its Andium Homebuy scheme and has the commercial knowledge and resources to operate the waiting list. Given their expertise in this area, including working relationships with lenders, lawyers and surveyors, this transfer will significantly improve and streamline the service provided to prospective home buyers."

Andium Homes' Head of Property and Asset Management, Michael Ruane, said: "We are delighted to be taking on the management of the assisted purchase waiting list. We are the only housing provider currently offering assisted purchase opportunities and are therefore well placed to enhance the application process for aspiring buyers. What we learn from managing the waiting list will help inform the development of assisted purchase products going forward. We are looking forward to working with the Minister on those new initiatives."

Any Islander currently registered on the assisted purchase waiting list that has not received correspondence from the Gateway by the end of August should contact s.housinggateway@gov.je.
