Islanders reminded to register foreign vehicles

Residents who intend to live in Jersey for more than 12 months are being reminded to register any foreign vehicle brought with them to the Island, and obtain a Jersey driving licence.

Drivers can apply for a Jersey driving licence through their local parish hall and pay any relevant duties to Jersey customs. There are severe penalties for driving unregistered vehicles, including a fine of up to £10,000, or up to six months imprisonment.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Gordon Forrest, said: "Recent road checks have revealed a number of UK and other foreign registered vehicles being driven by Jersey residents, this has resulted in those vehicles being taken off the road and drivers being referred to their parish hall.

"We will be stepping up our road presence, as well as carrying out our usual road checks with the States of Jersey Police and Honorary officers, with a focus on foreign registered vehicles. I urge any Islanders who are driving a foreign registered vehicle to re-register it immediately."
