Jersey Library to receive bat detector

27 April 2021

The Jersey Library and the Jersey Bat Group have agreed together to loan out a bat detector to Islanders wishing to find out more about the Island's species.

The bat detector will be available to loan from the Library in town and will come in a pack filled with information on local bat species and a bat identification chart.

Chair of the Jersey Bat Group, Dr Amy Louise Hall said: 'We noticed that during these difficult 12 months that there has been a renewed focus on the environment with Islanders using lockdown to reengage with nature.

"We are delighted that the Jersey Library has partnered with us and will be loaning out one of our bat detectors so that members of the public can listen for bats in their gardens or whilst walking through the glorious Jersey countryside in the evening."

Chief Librarian, Ed Jewell said: "We are hugely grateful the Jersey Bat Group is offering us this opportunity to engage Islanders with nature. I hope those who enjoy listening to many of Jersey's bat species are encouraged to learn more through the variety of books available at the Library and consider joining the Jersey Bat Group.

"As summer is on the horizon and the nights get warmer, bat activity is starting to increase and this loan scheme will allow Islanders to be able to detect these rarely seen mammals."
