Part 2: fire safety

The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service review planning and building applications.

They provide comments and use any relevant standards to ensure:

  • any development that is built meets current fire safety guidance and regulatory requirements
  • the building complies and is practically safe for both occupants and any attending emergency responders

Fire Safety officers are trained to provide expert advice to building controllers on areas of consideration including:

  • locations of water supplies
  • travel distances
  • suppression systems
  • compartmentation and fire stopping
  • access and facilities for firefighters

Part 2 of the building by laws set standards for fire safety in new and altered buildings.

The technical guidance in this section provides design guidance on meeting those standards.
