Keeping your child safe online

Your children may know their way well around the internet, social networks and apps but they’re vulnerable to unexpected or threatening situations.

The internet is relatively unpoliced, making it vital to safeguard your children against issues like:

  • inappropriate contact which may lead to abuse or grooming
  • adult or malicious content
  • the temptation to share private information or images
  • online bullying (trolling)

Our advice on bringing children up in the digital age falls into 3 categories:

  1. work with your children as they grow and develop. Guide them in the right direction, understand what they are doing and be on hand to answer any concerns
  2. have technical measures in place such as parental control software and network and device-level filters
  3. keep up-to-date on the latest developments in apps, social networking and gaming by reading up on them and speaking to your children and other parents
