Online bullying

Some people think hiding behind their keyboard makes it acceptable to abuse others by threatening, stalking or blackmailing others online.

If you’re a victim, ignore the abuser and report the abuse to the police, the social network or your internet service provider as appropriate.

And, of course, it’s completely unacceptable for you to abuse others. Never post comments that are abusive or may offend individuals or groups of society.

Support for victims of online bullying

If you’ve been affected by online bullying and you need confidential support or advice on what to do next contact Victim Support. You can call the Supportline on  +44 (0)8 08 16 89 111 or request a call back via the website.

Opening hours for the Supportline are:

  • weeknights 8pm-8am (Monday to Friday)
  • weekends from Saturday 5pm to Monday 8am

You don’t have to report your crime to the police to talk to Victim Support, and their services are completely confidential.
