European Union Entry and Exit System

About the Entry and Exit System (EES)

The European Union’s (EU) new Entry and Exit System (EES) will begin operating from 12 October 2025.

EES is an IT system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay each time they cross the external borders of 27 European countries using the system.

If you're travelling to the listed countries for a short stay using a British passport (this includes Jersey variant British passports), you're required to register your fingerprints and a photograph when you arrive. You don't need to do anything before you arrive at the border and there's no cost for EES registration.

Once fully implemented, EES registration will replace the current system of manually stamping passports when visitors arrive in the EU.

Further information can be found on EU Entry and Exit System GOV.UK and on the EES website.
