Organising a beach clean
Anyone can clean a beach in Jersey.
You may need permission
if you plan to:

drive or park vehicles on the beach

hold a meeting on the beach with loud music playing
If you need permission, email tradingstandards@gov.je and the parish.

If the event is open to the general public you may need to ask consent from the Bailiff. Find more information on

You may need to apply for a road event licence. Find more information on
planning an event on the road or public place.

Risk Assessment
You should carry out a risk assessment for the activity.
The assessment may need to include details of:
- supervising children and getting parental permission
- monitoring the weather
- preventing sunburn or hypothermia
- preventing accidents and incidents
- having a first aid
Equipment you need
All you need to clean a beach is something to put the rubbish in.
You should also carry a first aid kit with you.
You may not find any sharp objects but you should have a sharps box in case. You can get a sharps box from a pharmacy.
Community Beach Clean Boxes
Community Beach Clean Boxes contain essentials needed for collecting rubbish, including:
- gloves
- bags
- buckets
- first aid kit
- hand sanitiser
- sharp objects box
- guidance on carrying out a clean
The boxes are available from every parish hall, contact them for more information.
They can be used to clean beaches or other locations such as:

schools

parks
-
country paths
