Request

We would like to know how many cases of malignant melanoma were reported in Jersey in 2014.

Response

The 2009 to 2011 data as reported in the last CI cancer registration report can be found below.

Owing to the amount of checking and level of analysis that needs to be completed, the CI cancer registration reports are usually produced for data two years in arrears (eg the 2013 report had 2011 data) so normally the 2014 data would not be reported until late 2016.

However, based on specimen analysis and subsequent diagnosis, the department can offer the following statistics:

  • the hospital had 88 patients with a diagnosis of malignant melanoma in 2014

The department can't confirm if they were first diagnosis specimens, ie new cases.

There is a possibility that some of the cases may be from patients who had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma before 1 January 2014.

For further statistical data, wait for the CI cancer registration report (2016) for a full analysis of the 2014 figures.
