New Director General for Health Department

17 December 2018

States Chief Executive, Charlie Parker, today announced the appointment of a new Director General for Health and Community Services.

Caroline Landon, who has spent 28 years in the NHS, will take up her new position in the new year. She is currently Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Previously, she was Chief Operating Officer for Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and was Executive Director of Operations for West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust for two years before that. Ms Landon replaces Anthony McKeever, who has held the role on an interim basis.

Minister for Health and Community Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: “Caroline’s proven track record as an accomplished executive within the UK health service will be a real asset to us as we implement our new model of health care for Jersey, which will be led by clinical professionals and supported by a modern, effective, efficient and restructured Health and Community Services.”

Ms Landon added: “Public services in Jersey are going through significant change and none more so than in Health and Community Services and the debate over the new hospital and preparing to care for an aging population. I’m excited about the challenges ahead, including improving health care delivery, putting a greater emphasis in preventative health and mental health care services and working more effectively with the range of partners in the private, voluntary and community sectors.”

The appointment followed the Jersey Appointments Commission code of conduct for fair and open competition, and the appointment was made following a combination of face-to-face interviews and extensive and evidence-based technical and psychometric assessments. Ms Landon was appointed unanimously by the interview panels, which included subject matter experts and independent Jersey panel members.
