Festival of Learning

Islanders interested in changing career, learning something new or starting a hobby are encouraged to attend a series of free events next week.

The Jersey Festival of Learning, organised by Skills Jersey and Jersey Libary, runs from Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June and features a variety of talks, classes and one-to-one sessions that range from starting a new business to learning Jèrriais or knitting.

Among the highlights are talks by three islanders who will share their passions and hobbies in a bid to inspire others to follow in their footsteps. The 'Share Your Passion' talks will be led by Great British Menu contestant and Michelin-starred chef Lee Smith, human rights activist Natalie Strecker, and author and historian Ian Ronayne.

There will also be a talk about the psychology and biology of change for people who are anxious about trying something new, as well as practical help for writing CVs and information about opportunities in the digital sector.

Skills Jersey Operations Manager Stuart Penn said: "The Jersey Festival of Learning is your chance to learn something new this month. Whether you want to pick up a new passion, freshen up your CV, or get tips on starting a new business, you can be a part of the Jersey Festival of Learning."

Although all the events are free, islanders will need to book a place at some of the sessions. There is more information online.
