Islanders are being reminded that they can give their views on a draft Heritage (Jersey) Law,
which sets out new provisions for archaeological objects uncovered or found in Jersey.
The Government’s draft law aims to bring a more robust framework to the protection and
management of findings. This would include:
- Mandatory reporting measures
- A Historic Environment Record (HER)
- An inquest process
- A clear reward system for finders and landowners.
The consultation is open until Monday 8 September, and can be accessed via
gov.je/consultations.
Responses to the consultation will inform the draft Law, which is due to be lodged for
consideration by the States Assembly later this year.
