About terrorist
Terrorist attacks in Jersey are highly unlikely, however we should still be careful.
Jersey has the same risk of an attack from a lone individual or a group of individuals involved in terrorism. Terrorism can be:
- physical attack
- interference with information or communication systems, causing disruption and economic damage
- threats or hoaxes designed to frighten and intimidate
Some attacks are easier to carry out if the terrorist is assisted by an insider or someone with specialist knowledge or access.
The States of Jersey Police and their partners work together to protect our Island and keep it safe through the national Counter Terrorism Strategy (CONTEST).
CONTEST aims to reduce the risk from terrorism and domestic extremism so that everybody in Jersey can go about their everyday lives freely and with confidence.
Even if the risks of terrorist incidents happening on the Island are low, the impacts could have serious consequences, including:
- multiple casualties
- major disruption to transport and utilities
- deaths and injuries
- increased number of admissions to hospitals
- road and travel disruptions
- damage and disruption to utilities
- damage to property and environment
- displaced families and communities
- personal financial loss
- impact on businesses
