Where to dispose of asbestos
All asbestos wastes must be delivered at the Asbestos Reception and Disposal Facility (ARDF) at La Collette. If you deliver asbestos waste to any other disposal facility in Jersey it may result in environmental remediation charges. You could also be prosecuted.

Opening times
The ARDF receives asbestos between 8am and 1pm every other Wednesday:

Make a booking
You must book a delivery slot for all deliveries of asbestos waste at the ARDF. You can complete the form only if you're the person or company doing the asbestos removal work.
You must submit the form:

for each load of asbestos waste
- at least 5 working days in advance prior to delivery

Note that the online form replaces the Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.

Disposal categories
Disposal categories are based on the likeliness of exposure to asbestos fibres. Categories can roughly be compared to material types. The asbestos fibre types are not relevant for disposal. Contact the
Health and Safety Inspectorate for further guidance.

You must separate your asbestos waste from all other waste. We'll rejected any mixed loads.
Deliver your licensed asbestos waste separately from your non-licensed. If you deliver loads with mixed categories you'll be charged the higher disposal cost.
If you have had a material or item tested and the laboratory confirms there's no asbestos in your samples, you can usually recycle or dispose of the materials as you normally would. Bring a copy of the analysis certificate with you to your chosen place of disposal.
Licensed asbestos materials
Materials classified in the licensed asbestos category include, for example:
- insulating board (AIB)
- hand-applied lagging
- pre-formed lagging
- loose-fill insulation
- sprayed coating (flock)
- enclosure materials
- materials and soils contaminated with visible fragments of any of the above
- soils containing free asbestos fibre of 0.1% or greater by weight
Non-licensed asbestos materials
Materials in the non-licensed category are all other materials containing asbestos. These are sometimes referred to as bonded asbestos and include, for example:
- cement products (roofing, flues, patio tiles)
- vinyl (plastic floor tiles, linoleum with paper backing)
- decorative plaster (artex on ceilings or walls)
- bitumen (roofing felt, pitch fibre pipes, toilet cisterns)
- textiles (electrical flashguards, fire blankets)
- materials and soils contaminated with visible fragments of any of the above
- soils containing free asbestos fibre less than 0.1% by weight
Contaminated soils
You must get soil wastes greater than 100 cubic meters fully classified and carry out leach testing.
Packaging
All your asbestos waste must be double wrapped in specially printed waste bags or heavy-duty polythene and sealed with tape. Check under your category of asbestos to see what are the other requirements that you must follow.
Licensed materials
Your inner packaging must be red bags marked with asbestos warning pictograms. Your outer packaging must be clear bags also marked with asbestos warning pictograms. If you have used polythene wrapping, you must tape a red bag displaying the asbestos warning pictograms to the outside.
Non-licensed materials
Your inner and outer packaging must be clear bags marked with asbestos warning pictograms. If you have used polythene wrapping, you must tape a red bag displaying the asbestos warning pictograms to the outside.
Soil and stones waste
You must double bag all licensed or non-licensed soil and stones waste. You can purchase heavy-duty bulk bags which have been pre-printed with asbestos warning labels.
Transporting asbestos waste
The carrier of your asbestos waste must hold a hazardous waste carriers license to be allowed on Jersey roads. Make sure your carrier has your booking confirmation including your booking reference and delivery time.
List of registered hazardous waste carriers
If delivery drivers need to exit the vehicle to offload they must bring their own respirator with P3 filter and disposable overalls.
If additional plant or equipment is required to offload any of your delivery, this must have been recorded on the booking form and agreed in advance.
