How to get a copy certificate

We hold records of all births, adoptions, stillbirths, death and marriages in Jersey from 1842 to the present day and all civil partnerships in Jersey from 2012 to the present day.

You can request a copy of the following certificates online or come into our offices:

  • birth
  • adoption
  • stillbirth
  • death
  • marriage
  • civil partnership

You'll need to provide as much information as possible about the certificate you need. It usually takes three to five working days to produce.

Certificate costs

A standard certificate costs £32.31 and a short form certificate costs £10.77.  If you can't provide the date or parish of who the certificate is relating to, you will be charged an additional £32.31 to find the record.

You can collect your certificate from our offices for free, or we can post it to you by standard post for an extra charge of:

  • £1 for a Jersey address
  • £2 for UK and other Channel Islands
  • £3 worldwide

The Office of the Superintendent Registrar cannot be held liable for certificate orders that are lost or delayed in the postal system.

Life events registered between 1842 and 30 April 2002

Life events which were registered between 1842 and 30 April 2002 were originally recorded in French, from the 1990s in a mixture of English and French and at times entirely in English. Certified copies are supplied either exactly as originally recorded or translated into English.

We do not translate English or mixed English and French records into French. If you require a certified copy certificate entirely in the French language, you should check with this service before ordering your certificate as it may not be possible to provide this if the original record is not completed entirely in French and no refunds can be offered.

You will be required to specify, at the time of ordering, if you would like the certificate left in French (original format) or translated into English.

A translated English copy of a French language registration is provided at no additional charge.

Life events recorded on or after 1 May 2002

Life events registered on or before 1 May 2002 are recorded exclusively in English.

Certified copies of these life events will be provided exactly as they appear in the original record and cannot be translated into the French language.

Express certificates

If you need a certificate urgently you can order an Express certificate. Express certificates ordered before 12.30pm on a working day can be collected from this office on the same day or the next working day if ordered after 12.30pm.

Express certificates will be posted by standard class post on the day they are produced.

The standard express certificate costs £64.62 and an express short form certificate costs £21.54.
