COVID-19 testing

PCR testing information

From Sunday 29 January 2023, Government of Jersey PCR testing for the general public will end. Lateral Flow Tests for home use will remain available for anyone who is symptomatic.

If you need a PCR test for example to travel, you can go to a Pharmacy or a GP practice. They will provide COVID negative test certificates with a QR code.

If you're a clinician in primary or secondary care you can order a PCR as a diagnostic test.

Lateral Flow Testing (LFTs)

LFTs are available to all Islanders to use at home. You're recommended to take an LFT if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

How to order test kits

Islanders of any age can register to receive LFTs at home by signing up to the Home Testing Programme.

Order LFT tests

Each member of a household must register as an individual to receive their own kit. You'll be sent an email and text message with an 8-digit unique code to log in and submit results. Kits will be delivered by Jersey Post within a week of registering.

If you have previously registered, you can order more LFTs using your 8-digit code. These kits should be reordered no sooner than 60 days from the previous kits issued.

Test results

Taking a lateral flow test involves taking a sample using a swab.

We supply different types of test kits that have different processes. Make sure you read the instructions that come with your test kit.

What you need to do
Negative
One line next to C shows the test is negative
Covid lateral flow negative test result
A negative result means that active coronavirus infection was not detected, at the time of the test.

You can maintain normal activities, but should continue to follow the current public health guidance

If you still have symptoms, it is a good idea to repeat the test 24 hours later.

Positive
Two lines, one next to C and one next to T, even faint lines, shows the test is positive
Covid lateral flow positive test result
You should stay at home for at least five days, and avoid contact with vulnerable people for 10 days.

You do not need to have a PCR test.

You can register your positive LFT result.  Your employer may ask you to do this; it also helps us keep track of the COVID situation on the island.

Inconclusive
No lines, or one line next to T, means the test is inconclusive
Covid lateral flow void test result
You will need to re-take with a fresh test kit.

Submit your test result

You can register a positive LFT test result so we can better understand what is going on with COVID-19 on the island.

The results get automatically uploaded to our public health system.
