Southampton hospitals

​​​​About the Southampton hospitals​​​

There are three hospitals:

  • Southampton general hospital
  • Southampton eye hospital
  • Princess Anne hospital 

Southampton general hospital is a teaching hospital and a medical research unit.

Getting to South​ampton hospitals​​

You can travel various ways to the Southampton hospitals from the airport:​ 

  • taxi: you can go to 'Checkers Cars Taxi' desk at the main concourse (approx. £9)
  • train: head to the Parkway station (approx. 100m walk from the terminal) and get a train direct to Southampton central. You can get a taxi from there or the number 3 bus to Southampton hospital 
  • bus:​ you can get a bus from outside the airport to the city centre, then change to the number 3 to Southampton hospital

Arriving at the hospitals​​​

Your appointment letter will state the date, time and where you need to go to. 

You will find maps all around the hospitals to help you find your wards.​

When you reach your ward, the nurse or ward clerk will explain what will happen.

Senior staff will explain the treatment you're having and will ask you to sign a consent form; make sure you read this thoroughly before signing.  

Your care​​​

Your consultant and a qualified nurse will be responsible for your care. 

The hospital will keep your nominated contact peron​​ ​informed with how you're doing. 

​Leaving the hospital​​

If you have booked your travel through the Travel Office, the hospital will contact us and arrange your travel home. 

If you have booked travel on your own, you will need to make your own arrangements to get back to Jersey. 

If you're transferred straight back to Jersey hospital, the consultant will let us know and we'll make travel arrangements.

If you need an interpreter or a signer, you'll need to tell the hospital be​fore you go by phoning +44 (0) 2380 794688​.
