Give us your views on education

16 August 2011

More Islanders are being urged to give their views on Jersey’s education system as part of a public consultation by the department for Education, Sport and Culture (ESC).

A discussion paper entitled ‘Learning for Tomorrow’s World: The Future of Education in Jersey’ was published by Deputy James Reed, the Education, Sport and Culture Minister, earlier this summer. The document sets out how the current system works and asks readers to identify its strengths and weaknesses as well as inviting them to suggest improvements.

A wide range of responses have been submitted so far and the majority of contributors have been parents who have focussed on 1 or 2 particular areas of the education service. Responses have also been received from a number of business representatives and teachers. But ESC say they would like more views and are inviting Islanders from all walks of life to contribute.
Deputy Reed said: "Everyone in Jersey is directly affected by education, either through their children, their own experience at school or through the training they need for work. That’s why this is an important consultation for the Island. It is essential people send us their views if we are to build the best overall education for children and adults alike to help them meet the challenges of the future."

The public consultation ends on 14 October.
