Safeguarding Board annual conference

24 February 2015

The Safeguarding Partnership Board’s annual conference will focus this year on the challenges of addressing adult self neglect.

The conference, which is taking place at the Hotel de France on Wednesday 25 March 2015, is for anyone who has an interest in self neglect and will include presentations and seminars by UK speakers.

Professor Michael Preston-Shoot, the Executive Dean for the faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire, an expert on self neglect, will be presenting key evidence-based messages from research and findings from over 40 serious case reviews involving self neglect.

Cath Erine, service manager of the Safeguarding Adults and Mental Capacity Service in Sheffield, will be presenting a practice perspective and introducing the Vulnerable Adult at Risk Management (VARM) tool.

Current practice

The Independent Chair of the Safeguarding Adults Partnership Board, Glenys Johnston OBE, said “This conference is for everyone. It will give professionals, community and voluntary sector partners the opportunity to discuss the subject of self neglect in the context of their every day work and will include information on current practice locally.”

Seminars will include

  • fire service policy and practice on hoarding in Jersey
  • what should Jersey do about self-neglect? Have your say
  • vulnerable adult risk management model (case study)
  • environmental health policy and practice in Jersey

“The Safeguarding Partnership Board conferences are a chance for people to share their thoughts and concerns and take on information about current best practice. We hope that the conference will give attendees the opportunity to contribute to developing local strategy around self neglect” said Mrs Johnston.

An ‘early bird’ discounted price is available until 28 February 2015.

The conference is being supported by the Bosdet Foundation.
