Work to stabilise the rock face above Snow Hill car park will begin on Monday 21 September.
The essential works to the area above the ‘concrete catcher’ is the final part a wider project commissioned by Jersey Property Holdings to support the Fort Regent rock faces. The high risk areas for work had been highlighted in a detailed structural survey carried out in 2011.
During different phases of the work, areas of the Snow Hill car park will be closed to ensure public safety but pedestrian footpath access and access to the motorbike and bicycle parking areas at Hill Street /Snow Hill will be maintained throughout the work.
Work suspended over Christmas
With the agreement of the Transport and Technical Services Department (TTS) the work will be suspended over the Christmas period so that short stay shopper parking will not be disrupted. Unavailable spaces will be cordoned off.
Jersey Property Holdings have awarded the contract for the work to local company Geomarine Ltd.
Transport and Technical Services Minister and Assistant Treasury Minister with responsibility for Jersey Property Holdings, Deputy Eddie Noel, said “The final stage of this project will ensure the long term stability of the rock face around Fort Regent and ensure the safety of the public using Snow Hill car park. We are pleased to be able to award the contract for this work to a local company through a competitive tendering process.”
