Parking charges start again

31 March 2016

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) would like to remind all users of seasonal car parks that from Friday 1 April, they will have to pay to park again.

Parking in the seasonal car parks is free from October to March (inclusive) but come the beginning of April is chargeable at 1 unit per 2 hours. This applies to the following car parks

  • Lay-bys 5, 6 and 7 on Victoria Avenue
  • Victoria House (Bel Royal Hamburger Bar)
  • La Perquage at La Route de la Haule
  • La Mielle at St Aubin
  • Midbay at St Brelade’s Bay
  • Tams at St Brelade’s Bay
  • Woodford at St Brelade’s Bay

These car parks serve neighbouring beaches.  Seasonal charging was introduced some years ago to try to free up more spaces for beach goers. When the parking was previously free, the car parks were being filled up by car owners who lived in the area.  The charging mechanism allows fairer use of spaces.

Director of Transport for DfI, Tristen Dodd said “Although there is signage in these seasonal car parks which says that you have to ‘pay and display’, we want to give people an extra reminder particularly regular users who may not pay as much attention to signage as others.”
