Conference on preventing domestic violence and abuse

07 November 2016

The Community and Constitutional Affairs Department will host a conference on 10 November 2016 focusing on early intervention to prevent domestic violence and abuse.

The conference, entitled ‘1001 Reasons to Listen’, will be attended by the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the Home Affairs Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore. Among the guest speakers will be the Director of Evidence for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England, Professor Leon Feinstein, and the Deputy CEO of SafeLives, Suzanne Jacob, OBE.

With the support of the Council of Ministers, Deputy Moore has prioritised the 1001 Critical Days initiative and has led on work to tackle domestic violence and violence against women and girls. The ‘1001 Reasons to Listen’ conference will be the first in a series of conferences and seminars aimed at promoting awareness of, and identifying effective ways of working within, these areas.

Deputy Moore said “Early intervention helps enormously in the protection of babies, children and families from the long-term effects of domestic violence. Giving children a strong start in life and helping them to avoid negative childhood experiences is at the heart of my Department’s approach, and this conference reflects that commitment. We are privileged to have a line-up of highly experienced, expert speakers, and I am confident that the day will be of real benefit to those who attend.”

Anyone interested in attending the conference can check Event brite for ticket availability.
