Recreational bass catch and release fishery continues

30 June 2017

Fishermen are reminded that the recreational bass fishery will remain ‘catch and release’ only for the duration of 2017. These rules apply to all recreational fishermen in Jersey Territorial Waters, including Les Écréhous and Les Minquiers.

All other measures to manage Jersey’s bass stocks that came into force at the beginning of the year also remain in place.

EU-wide measures to conserve bass stocks are similar, but measures applied to recreational fishermen are due to change shortly, allowing them to retain one bass a day.

Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce said “This is not a decision I've taken easily as I know how passionate people are when it comes to bass, but I have said all along that I will act on the basis of the best evidence and advice available. At this time the evidence and advice has not changed and so it is right that the management measures in place don't change either.”
