Haute Vallée students celebrate Learning Disability Week

18 June 2021

Students at Haute Vallée have joined adults supported by the Learning Disability Service to co-create pieces of artwork to raise awareness about Learning Disability Week.

Learning Disability Week – which runs between 14 and 20 June - aims to raise awareness of learning disabilities, and the different ways they can impact individuals, families and communities. This year, the week celebrates art and creativity, and how it has helped people with learning disabilities throughout the last 12 months.

The art workshops – which took place on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 June at 2pm were run by Samantha Boccone and Caroline Gardner. During the sessions, students worked with the adults to take part in a Printmaking workshop.

During the workshop, students also had the chance to learn more about working with people with learning disabilities, including as a nurse, support worker, or volunteer.

Samantha Boccone, Head of Arts and Creative Technologies at Haute Vallée, said: "We are thrilled to be able to celebrate Learning Disability Week in Haute Vallée School. These Art workshops have given young adults with learning disabilities a chance to express themselves through an art media they may not be familiar with and gain confidence along the way.

"The collaboration between our students and our visitors this week will be a wonderful learning experience for everybody."
