Island Outcome Indicators chart

The Island Outcome Indicators (IOIs) are long-term measures that show how Jersey is progressing towards its Sustainable Wellbeing goals.

This is the new, beta test version of the Island Outcome and Indicator dashboard. Click the double arrow icon at the bottom right of the chart to expand it to full screen.

Source: Statistics Jersey JSON | CSV

The chart has two modes:

Summary mode: this shows the status of the 10 Outcomes, sorted into their respective Pillars (Community, Environment and Economy). The doughnut charts display the proportion of indicators with each grading (Red, Amber, Green, Gray) in the whole Pillar.

Focus mode: clicking on the arrow alongside each set of Outcomes opens a page with detailed breakdown of the Indicators in each Pillar (grouped by Outcome). It allows the user to select individual indicators and see the attached data series.

Indicator Grading

The Red/Amber/Green (RAG) gradings for each indicator are based on how its time series trend compares to the ambition for that indicator. E.g. if we have an ambition for crime rate to be falling, and it is - the indicator will be graded Green; however if crime rate is increasing - it will be graded Red.

Outcome Grading

Outcomes are also given a RAG grading - calculated by the number of Green, Amber and Red indicators it contains.

Chart filters

Year - choose a year to display on the chart the Red/Amber/Green statuses will correspond to that year. If an indicator has no data for a year - it will display as Gray. Selecting ‘latest data’ will return the grading based on the most recent year data is available for each indicator.

Trend Period - choose whether to analyse the trend over 3 years, 5 year, 10 years or all data points prior to the year in question. This will affect the gradings of indicators – the short-term trend may differ from the long term trend.

Reasons for change

The current tabular presentation of the Island Outcome Indicators using Clear Impact shows data on 193 indicators, gives a detailed time series and commentary for each. However, Clear Impact struggles to describe how the Island is faring overall: is life in Jersey getting better or worse?

The new chart has 69 Indicators (with 13 more in development); gives each a Red / Amber / Green (RAG) status and aggregates them at Outcome and Pillar level giving a better description of life in Jersey overall. While the total number of Indicators in the new chart is reduced, the overall understanding of life in Jersey is enhanced.

Accessible formats

Due to certain constraints we have had to include technologies and features that may cause accessibility issues.

We're working hard to improve accessibility by offering accessible alternatives. If you require alternative versions or if you experience any accessibility problems, contact Statistics Jersey. We are running this new presentation in parallel with the original Clear Impact presentation for a period to gather user feedback; in due course we intend to turn off Clear Impact and use the new method only.
