Spiritual and religious support we offer
Our chaplaincy team can support you whatever your need, background or belief.
We offer:
- spiritual and religious support for patients and visitors of all faiths or none
- opportunity for spiritual and religious expression, including special services, ward communions and prayer
- a non-judgemental service
- time to listen to you
- confidentiality
- a point of contact with the appropriate faith community
We can give you faith specific support or just listen and help you understand and make sense of what is happening to you or a loved one.
We are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Patients or relatives can also ask ward staff to contact the duty chaplain or the Roman Catholic chaplain.
The hospital chapel
There is a chapel at the General Hospital. From The Parade entrance take the lift to the 2nd floor and follow the signs for the chapel.
The chapel is open 8am to 8pm every day and can be open at other times on request.
Anyone can use the chapel for their own private prayer or reflection. We also offer Christian services and provision for private Muslim worship.
The chaplains serve other health sites including:
- Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre
- Rosewood House, Queens House, Clinique Pinel at St Saviour’s hospital
- Limes Residential Nursing home
- Sandybrook Residential Nursing home
- other sites by request
Books of remembrance
You may wish to celebrate the life of a loved one who has passed away by adding their name to our book of remembrance.
We have 2 books, 1 for babies and 1 for adults. The books can be found at the entrance to the hospital chapel.
If you would like to make an entry, contact the chaplaincy for an application card.
All entries are free. Donations to the League of Friends, who pay for the calligraphy, are gratefully received.
Prayer requests or prayer items
Contact the Hospital chaplaincy for prayer requests or ask a staff member who will pass it on to the chaplain.
Prayer items such as a cross, bible or meditations are available in the hospital chapel and prayer room. We can also send items you need to the ward.
