What to expect at the RJA&HS
You will continue to receive the same high standards of service quality and care from our team.
The Members Room has been thoughtfully refurbished to provide the same respectful and dignified experience as our current chapel.
It offers:
- capacity for up to 100 people and standing space at the back
- exclusive use of the space to allow mourners the same level of privacy
- a private, off-road area for mourners to gather before and after services
- a location within 15 minutes drive of the current crematorium site
There is a sound system outside for larger services. This will allow those standing under the awning to be protected from the elements and view the service through the glass doors at the back of the room.
The hearing loop is all around for those wearing a hearing aids.
Events at the RJA&HS will continue to take place as normal. Our teams will work closely to ensure both operations run smoothly.
Why we’re temporarily relocating chapel services
The crematorium will be affected by the construction of the new Acute Hospital at Overdale because of its close location.
Moving our chapel services will ensure we can continue to conduct services with:
We will return to our usual location when the most impactful constructions are done. We expect this to take around 3 years.

- grieving their loss
- celebrating the memories of their loved ones
We offer a dignified setting for human cremation while meeting mourners’ emotional and spiritual needs.
Our facilities are multifaith. You can come or attend a funeral regardless of your religion, traditions and belief.
We will always treat your loved one with the utmost respect, dignity and care. We follow the practical and ethical standards set by the
Federation of British Cremation Authorities.
Our chapel
We have a comfortable chapel which can seat 150 people and have standing space for 30 people.
A sound system is also located in the foyer and outside to allow larger crowds to gather and attend services.
Our chapel also has a Viscount organ and a modern media centre. We can provide:
- live streaming
- visual tributes
- an almost unlimited music library
All forms of live music are welcome. Our staff can offer any advice you may need. The hearing loop is located on the left-hand side, for those wearing hearing aids.
The floral tribute area is located outside the main entrance. It offers an area to gather with friends and family after the service. Floral tributes remain on display outside for a week, unless they are withered or you ask us to take them away.
Arranging a service
You can only arrange cremation services at the crematorium using a funeral director:
They will offer advice, guidance and support on the different options available for your loved one’s funeral.
Contact your funeral director for more information, price lists and to organise a service.
Services we offer
There are different types of services you can choose depending on your needs and circumstances.
Your funeral director can offer guidance on the best option for you and your family.
Full service
This is our main funeral service which takes places in our chapel. It may last up to 30 minutes.
We can receive your loved one’s coffin first thing in the morning before the service or by procession before the service starts.
Committal service
A committal service is a final ceremony before cremation.
It usually lasts around 10 minutes as the funeral service would have been held somewhere else. A member of the clergy would typically conduct the service and it follows a standard religious format.
On most occasions, only the closest family are in attendance, the funeral director and the minister or civil celebrant.
The coffin of your loved one is brought through the front chapel doors and placed on the catafalque. It is moved thgough for cremation as soon as possible after the final committal.
Walk-through or unattended cremation
This service doesn’t have a ceremony.
Your loved one’s coffin is received at the crematorium at 8am on the day of cremation. It is brought through the front chapel doors and placed on the catafalque. It is then moved through and cremated as soon as possible.
You may be able to attend these services in exceptional circumstances. This must be arranged with your funeral director in advance.
Chapel only
You can hire our chapel only for a memorial service. This is subject to availability.
Funeral live streaming
We can professionally live stream your funeral service and make it available online for 28 days.
Services are captured by a discreetly located camera at the back of the chapel. This allows friends and families who can’t attend in person to watch the funeral live.
This is not currently offered for walk-through or unattended cremation services.
Our location and access
Our chapel services will be temporarily relocated at the RJA&HS in Trinity. Other services will remain at the existing location at Westmount.

Watch a live streaming
To watch a live streaming of a funeral service:
- go to
watch a stream at the Jersey Crematorium on Obitus
- enter the login details provided by the funeral director
- select ‘log in and watch’
Streamings are live 5 minutes before the start of the service. You should try ahead to make sure you can log into the system.
If the streaming doesn’t work, you should:
- refresh your browser
- check that the login details are correct. If you can’t log in with the details provided, contact the funeral director or Jersey Crematorium
- make sure that any updates or background tasks on your device have been cleared or completed. These may interfere with the connection
Try using a good and stable wifi connection to get the best streaming results. You may need to ask others connected to the same network not to use it during the funeral.
You should avoid using mobile data.
Collecting the ashes
Once cooled down, the ashes are transferred to an urn or a container of your choice.
They are usually ready for collection 2 working days following the service. In some circumstances, ashes can be collected on the same day. Discuss this with your funeral director if you have a specific timescale.
Your funeral director would collect the ashes and return it to you. If you prefer, you may collect the ashes from the crematorium yourself. You will need to be the Applicant for Cremation and show a photo ID.
Cremation usually takes place straight after the service. It lasts between 90 to 120 minutes and there is always only 1 at a time.
The whole coffin or casket is cremated, including any valuables you may place with your loved one.
Inscriptions in the Book of Remembrance
You can honour, commemorate or remember loved ones who passed by having:
- an inscription in our Book of Remembrance
- a miniature Book of Remembrance
- a memorial card
Inscriptions in the Book of Remembrance can be viewed by anyone. The book is on display 24 hours, 7 days a week in the window of our crematorium and is turned daily. You can also view entries in the
