Employment Forum seeks views on increasing the minimum wage

05 June 2017

The Employment Forum wants to hear your views about increasing the minimum wage from 1 April 2018. The minimum wage in Jersey is currently £7.18 per hour and it applies to all employees over age 16.

Each year the Forum asks the public to comment on what rates the minimum wage and trainee rates should be set at from 1 April the following year. The Forum then considers all of the relevant economic and statistical evidence, as well as the consultation responses, and presents its recommendation to the Social Security Minister in September 2017.

Helen Ruelle, Chair of the Employment Forum, said: “It is particularly important that we hear from people who are directly affected by the minimum wage; including employers who pay the minimum wage and employees who earn the minimum wage. We know that the majority of these people will be in the hospitality and agriculture sectors. Stakeholders are welcome to fill in the online survey or give us their views in person. We, as a Forum, will then discuss all of the evidence that we have received and prepare a detailed recommendation for the Minister.”

The survey is available online for the next eight weeks. Copies can also be obtained by emailing the Employment Forum or telephoning +44 (0) 1534 447203.

Respondents may also request a meeting with the Forum. Comments must be provided to the Forum by Friday 28 July 2017.
